We chat to fitness trainer and Shield antiperspirant ambassador Mapule Ndhlovu about her home workouts, what motivates her to break a sweat and what her views on fitness are.
What are your go-to exercises at home?
I would advise that you do HIIT (high-intensity interval training) with all these exercises (40sec work and 20sec rest) as many reps as you can but make sure that you maintain good technique. The goal is to be able to do more reps, while still maintaining full range of motion.
Push-ups with different hand positions close or wider grip are the best for the upper body. They also work more than one muscle group and very well to firm up the chest (breast).
One muscle that’s really hard to get and maintain without a good diet. I would say it’s better to alternate between crunches and planks to strengthen your core first. Core needs to be activated all the time in each and every exercise you do.
Alternating between squats and lunges will give you maximum results, not only does it target the butt, but it really shapes your lower body nicely and the core is still engaged.
What time of the day would you recommend for exercise?
It doesn’t really matter what time of the day you exercise. The important thing is to make sure that you get in that workout before you go to bed.
How would you define body confidence?
Body confidence to me is the ability to love all the things that you can’t change about yourself (body) in a positive way and embrace all the beautiful things that you love about yourself.

What motivates you to get through tough days?
Knowing that I’ve had worse days in my life and God always has my back. This has always given me the confidence to keep a positive mindset and believe that this too shall pass; have faith and know that all will be well.
